KELA datasheet cover: Cybercrime Threats to The Financial Sector

Financial institutions are integral to the global economy, which makes them a constant target. This datasheet reviews the cybercrime threats KELA observed against the sector in 2023: insider threats and data theft, banking fraud tutorials and stolen cards traded on Telegram and card shops, ransomware attacks, network access sales and DDoS campaigns.

The sector recorded more than 250 ransomware and extortion attacks in 2023, with the US accounting for almost half, and more than 80 network access listings offered by initial access brokers.

What's inside:

  • How insiders at banks assist fraud schemes, from SIM swaps to unauthorized wire transfers
  • Banking data on sale: compromised cards on Omerta, Brian’s Club and Yale Lodge, plus checks and fraud tutorials on Telegram
  • Database dumps of bank customers and how they fuel phishing and identity theft
  • The most prolific ransomware groups targeting finance: Clop, LockBit, Alphv, 8Base and Black Basta
  • Hacktivist DDoS campaigns and KELA’s recommendations for defenders
